Cherry is most commonly sourced from wild black cherry.

Color:  fresh sawn cherry is typically light pinkish brown which deepens over time to a deep brown or amber.

Grain:  more closed grain than walnut.  straight fine grain with a smooth texture.  can feature curly and wavy grain patterns, known as flaming cherry.

Hardness:  moderately hard

Uses:  commonly used in fine furniture, cabinets, flooring, paneling and serving or cutting boards.  cherry machines and sands well to a smooth finish.  typically woodworkers let cherry age naturally.
