About Black Forest Sawmill

At Black Forest Sawmill, we believe in transforming nature's beauty into handcrafted treasures. Founded by Sean Black in 2015, our family-owned business offers tree-to-table custom services with a personal touch.

Sean's passion for woodworking began at age 12, building furniture with his grandfather. Influenced by his Ag and Woodworking teachers in high school, he graduated from Virginia Tech in 1983 with a degree in Forest Resource Management and Wildlife Biology. With 40 years of experience in timber management, logging, and sawmilling, Sean is dedicated to quality craftsmanship.

Starting with a Woodmizer LT40, Sean expanded the business to include specialty live edge slabs and lumber, later adding a Lucas mill. Just a year later, he opened a display room for easier public access and has since outgrown two buildings to include custom builds.

Now located in a spacious 7,000 square foot facility, Black Forest Sawmill features a retail area and a full-service woodworking shop. We pride ourselves on offering one-of-a-kind inventory, quality materials, professional craftsmanship, and exceptional customer service.
